You guys want to know one of the informidable weapons those Aunties have? :D

Answer: Their mouth.

Why?

Because they love talking about life - husbands, (gossips?), products which are useful or useless, good or bad, food recipes, good food places, problems, aspirations, their children.. etc.

One of the example is : When mothers talk about their children (which is one of the main topic they love to talk abt.) - they will definitely talk about their kids' education, school, CCA, exams, and slowly they'll link to 'whether your child has any tuition' topic and (duh..) they will want to know how good is the tuition teacher, whether the child had made any improvements ever since the tuitions.

If the answer is positive, mothers will be, unspeakably, promoting their kids' tuition teachers with pride. (and of course, throwing in a little spice, exaggerating their childrens' marvellous resuts - for some la.)

Through them they will relay their message to their friends who would relate it back to other mothers and the cycle repeats itself.

Therefore, the tuition teacher stands to benefit the most and immediately "raises in fame".

But don't just think they talk about children.

Household Products, the effectiveness of them.. Gossips or talks on their friends..

Indeed, Word of mouth is a very powerful marketing tool.

Not only is it free, it provides solid backing of how good something is.

(Good tuition teachers? Good effective products? etc...)

Word of mouth can spread like wildfire - thus the result will further bring in fame, fortune and most of all, clients for the "GOOD" subject of discussion between mothers.

So for those good tuition teachers who have so many students,

the main reason may not be because you have taught very well.

but instead it's the power of the mothers.
